How do I get this bastard apart?

I’m in the process of swapping out the cracked exhaust manifold on the RallyMetro. This electrical connector is for the O2 sensor, and I can’t get the rat-bastard apart. It was caked in old oil/gunk. Any advice Oppo?

My only advice is to keep sticking picks into every crack until it magically comes apart. I feel for you, I @$%#*ing hate electrical connectors.

The green tabs sticking out look like they need to be pried outward while you remove the connector. It looks like it might be stuck in there though. I’d try cleaning the outside of it at least with some brake cleaner before trying.

Edit: Forget everything I just said.

If you don’t need to save the second part (if it comes with the new sensor) I’d carefully zing it with a dremel cutoff wheel and take it apart in pieces. Don’t be concerned with it coming apart in just two .

Get some electric/sensor safe cleaning spray and spray all the crap out of it. Might help loosen it up a bit.

I agree with the bend the tabs downward in order to pop it apart.

Just be careful it’s not one of those neat little Nissan connectors where you have to push a tab inward (as if you were putting the connector together) and then the whole thing just pops apart. Killed myself for hours trying to figure that one out.

It’s been considered, and I may do that.

I do need to save the other half, because the “new” manifold has a different sensor and wiring.

Do the tabs need to come up or go down?

Up, stick paper clip ends under there and pull.

Down, use a hose clamp around it to push them all in at the same time. Just don’t go too tight.

I’m honestly not sure. I’ll try both :)

hose it down with brake cleaner, then blow it out, then silicone spray and then try the clip the old fashioned way?

I hosed it down with battery terminal cleaner. I’ll try silicone spray next.

That has been my methodology so far!

Did it come apart yet?

God I hate those damn things.

Whenever I have to remove one, the plastic is too brittle and something either breaks or I scream a lot and smash things.

I took that picture last night. I’ll try again after my daughters go to bed.

Fortunately I don’t have to get this running until spring, so I’m just walking away when I get pissed. I want to get it done in the next few weeks though, so the Roadmaster can be parked in the garage for the winter. It’s so nice having a car I don’t need to clean snow and scrape ice from in the morning before work.

Some of these old connectors have to be pushed in THEN pulled apart.

Try this, but I think that sensor is bad anyway. Or stop by a parts store and examine a new one, maybe even take a photo of it.
